Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for architects, contractors and specifiers choosing board systems for façades, interiors and fire protection.

What is fiber cement board?

Fiber cement board is a mineral composite panel made from cement, cellulose fibers and mineral fillers. It is non-combustible, dimensionally stable and resistant to moisture, insects and weather when detailed and installed correctly. Tomzol distributes fiber cement boards for ventilated façades, interior linings, flooring and decking. Product data sheets commonly reference standards such as EN 12467 (fiber cement specification) and EN 13501 (reaction to fire).

What is the difference between fiber cement and calcium silicate boards?

Both are mineral, non-combustible board materials, but they are formulated for different jobs. Fiber cement boards combine cement and cellulose fibers — ideal for ventilated façades, cladding, decking and interior wall or ceiling linings. Calcium silicate boards are based on silica and lime and excel at high-temperature and fire-separation performance — typical in fire-rated partitions, ductwork enclosures, fire doors and structural steel protection. Tomzol supplies both families so you can match the board type to the building zone and performance requirement.

Where can Tomzol Facade Board be used?

Tomzol Facade Board is a high-density fiber cement panel for ventilated rain-screen façades and exterior wall cladding on residential and commercial buildings. Common board formats include 2440 × 1220 mm and 3050 × 1220 mm, with thicknesses typically from 8 mm to 15 mm depending on the system. Use it where you need a durable, through-coloured, weather-resistant exterior finish. Always follow local building regulations, the ventilated cavity detailing and the system manufacturer's installation guide.

What is a ventilated façade and why use fiber cement?

A ventilated façade (rain-screen cladding) installs outer panels over a sub-frame with an air cavity behind them. Water that penetrates the outer skin can drain and evaporate, which improves long-term durability and can support the building's thermal strategy. Fiber cement panels are widely used because they are weather-resistant, non-combustible, available in large formats and dimensionally stable. Tomzol Facade Board and Wall Plank are designed for this type of exterior cladding system.

Who is Tomzol and where do you supply?

What products does Tomzol offer?

Tomzol's catalogue covers exterior façade boards (Facade Board, Wall Plank), interior boards (Moisture Board, Thermo Board, Backer Board, Deco Panel, Slim Panel, Feature Board), flooring and decking (Floor Slab, Deck Plank), and calcium silicate fire-protection systems (fire partitions, fire doors, ductwork, tunnel protection and related engineered solutions). See the full product list on our Products page.

What fire performance do Tomzol boards provide?

Many Tomzol fiber cement and calcium silicate boards are non-combustible. Individual product data sheets list classifications under EN 13501 (reaction to fire) and, where applicable, national test references such as AS 1530 or BS 476. Fire-rated system products — partitions, ceilings, doors and service enclosures — are tested for specific fire-resistance durations (commonly from 30 minutes to 2 hours or more, depending on the system build-up). Always confirm the exact classification and system approval on the technical sheet for your project jurisdiction.

What standard sizes and thicknesses are available?

Dimensions depend on the product line. Façade and wall boards are often supplied in 2440 × 1220 mm or 3050 × 1220 mm; thicknesses commonly range from 6 mm to 15 mm. Decking planks and floor slabs follow their own size sets. Each product page lists available length, width and thickness under Size. Email nt.tomzol@gmail.com for non-standard dimensions or project-specific cutting advice.

How can I request samples or technical data sheets?

Email nt.tomzol@gmail.com with the product name, intended application (for example ventilated façade, wet-room lining or outdoor decking), project location and approximate quantities. We can share technical data sheets (TDS), fire and test certificates, colour or texture samples and guidance on suitable board systems for your build.

How should fiber cement boards be stored on site?

Store boards flat on level supports, off the ground, under waterproof cover and protected from rain and direct sunlight until installation. Keep factory strapping in place where possible, stack evenly without point loads on unsupported spans, and handle edges carefully to prevent chipping. Do not store directly on soil or uneven surfaces.
