YELLOW – sunshine on the facade, all year round

Sometimes a building should not fade into the background but send a signal: here is the entrance, come in, this is a cheerful place. That is what Yellow is for. A warm, ochre yellow whose cloudy pattern looks more alive than a painted surface – and because the colour runs through the entire board, there is no flaking paint and no repainting. In this article we show where it works best, what to pair it with, and what you should know about it technically.
What kind of yellow is it exactly?
Yellow is not a loud lemon yellow but a more restrained, earthy ochre shade. Thanks to the stone-like, marbled, cloudy pattern of the natural surface, the facade is not a single solid block of colour but a gently vibrant surface: it changes throughout the day as the sun moves, and it stays warm even in overcast weather. The photo shows the actual colour sample, not a digitally coloured rendering.
Many colour traditions associate yellow with light, energy and friendliness – it is no coincidence that it is often seen on nurseries, schools and community buildings.
Where does it work best?
Yellow is at its strongest where emphasis is needed without dressing the whole building in a single colour. It is an especially good choice for:
- accent areas – a projecting volume, a stairwell, a band of balconies;
- entrances, where the colour naturally guides the eye and the visitor;
- educational and community buildings, where a friendly, cheerful atmosphere is a goal in itself;
- renovation, when a grey, monotonous facade needs refreshing with minimal intervention.
What to pair it with
Yellow looks its best next to a calm neighbour. From the ten Facade Board colours – White, Ivory, Beige, Yellow, Orange, Red, Chocolate, Space Grey, Light Grey and Dark Grey – a few proven combinations:
- Yellow + Light Grey or Dark Grey: the grey brings out the warmth of the yellow; the overall effect is modern and orderly.
- Yellow + White or Ivory: a bright, sunny, friendly facade, for example on a family home or a nursery.
- Yellow + Chocolate: a warm, earthy pairing that goes well with wood and natural surroundings.
A good rule of thumb: let the accent colour cover the smaller part of the facade and a more neutral colour the larger area. That way the yellow highlights without tiring the eye. If you are unsure, start with a smaller area – for example just the entrance zone – and see how it works within the building and its surroundings as a whole.
What you should know technically
Yellow is the same through-coloured, high-density fiber cement Facade Board as the other colours in the series – only the pigment differs. The main properties:
- Board sizes: 2440 × 1220 and 3050 × 1220 mm; thickness: 8, 9, 10, 12 and 15 mm
- Surfaces: polished, textured and natural; ribbed version with an 8 mm board, at most 10 mm at the ribs
- Fire safety: class A1, non-combustible (EN 13501-1)
- Density: 1510 ± 150 kg/m³; bending strength: at least 13 N/mm² (both per National Technical Assessment A-62/2025)
- Weathering resistance: class "A" – freeze–thaw, heat–rain, wet–dry and water permeability (National Technical Assessment A-62/2025)
- Fixing: visible rivets, concealed bonding, or a combination of both
A practical tip: for one building, order all boards in one go, from one production batch where possible, for the most even shade. And always look at the colour outdoors in daylight – screens and indoor lighting distort yellow particularly easily.
