A grooved surface that comes alive in the light

A wall can be a simple backdrop – or it can be the decoration itself. The Deco Panel is an interior wall cladding board with fine, even grooves: the play of light and shadow gives the wall a sense of depth – without any painting. In this article we show what makes the grooved surface special, how to choose between the textures and colours, and where it works best.

Why does a grooved surface come alive in the light?

A flat, painted wall looks much the same at any time of day. On a grooved surface, however, every single groove casts a small shadow, and that shadow changes with the direction of the light. In the morning, with sunlight coming from the side, the pattern is strong and sculptural; at midday it is more subdued; in the evening, under lamplight, it shows yet another face. The wall is no longer a static backdrop but a living part of the room.

The Deco Panel's grooves are fine and even: 2 mm deep and 4.1–4.2 mm wide. That is enough for the light-and-shadow effect to be clearly visible, but not so deep that the surface becomes restless.

Sizes and key data

  • Size: 2400 × 1200 mm, thickness: 10 mm
  • Grooves: 2 mm deep, 4.1–4.2 mm wide
  • Textures: Pure, Neat, Grace
  • Colours: Space Black, Space Grey, Space White
  • Non-combustible, 100% asbestos-free

Thanks to the large board size, large wall areas can be clad with fewer joints, so the rhythm of the grooves stays continuous.

Three colours, three textures – how to choose?

Space White is light and airy and adds a sense of space even to smaller rooms; the light-and-shadow play is at its subtlest here. Space Grey is a neutral, elegant middle ground that pairs well with both wood and metal. Space Black is the most dramatic: as a feature wall – behind a reception desk or as the TV wall in a living room – it becomes a real focal point.

The Pure, Neat and Grace textures give the grooved base different characters. A few tips for choosing:

  • Look at the sample in the light where the panel will go – light from the side strengthens the grooves, light from the front softens them.
  • In smaller rooms a lighter colour works well; in larger spaces or on a single feature wall, a darker one.
  • Think about the direction of the grooves: vertical grooves make a wall look taller, horizontal ones make it look wider.

Where does it look best?

The Deco Panel is the best choice wherever the wall itself is the decoration:

  • Living room – a TV wall or a feature wall behind the sofa.
  • Office – a meeting room or executive office, where the wall adds character and calm.
  • Retail – as a backdrop behind the products, it highlights what is on offer.
  • Reception – the place of first impressions, where a grooved wall instantly conveys quality.

As the panel needs no painting, the surface is finished as soon as it is installed, and there is no need to repaint later.

A durable, calm material

The Deco Panel is not only beautiful but also practical. It is non-combustible, so it can be used with confidence in spaces where fire safety is a priority, such as offices, shops or communal areas. Its moisture movement is at most 0.25%, so the boards keep their shape through the usual fluctuations of indoor humidity, and the lines of the grooves stay straight.

The panel can be used on walls and ceilings, so even an entire corner of a room or a suspended ceiling field can be given a uniform grooved surface. Cleaning is simple: dust is easily removed from the grooves with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.
